Gold Future Finance reports that on May 18, a senior U.S. official said the United States and the Philippines are “moving very quickly” to advance a plan to build an artificial intelligence and supply chain center in the Southeast Asian country, and that Washington is seeking to provide long-term assurances for U.S. investors. A deputy U.S. Secretary of State responsible for economic affairs, Jacob Helberg, said: “Investors who plan to put billions of dollars into large-scale infrastructure construction must ensure that these investments can stand up to the tests posed by changes in the governments of the two countries, and that they have a certain degree of staying power and certainty.” Helberg inspected a 4,000-acre plot of land in New Clark City, north of Manila, that is planned for development, and he accompanied more than ten U.S. companies on the trip. The two sides will hold detailed discussions on how to safeguard investors’ rights and ensure that “their plan is also reasonable for the Philippines.” Last month, as the Philippines joined the U.S.-led supply chain alliance “Pax Silica,” plans for the industrial center were announced. It is understood that the Clark base will become the first indigenous AI industry acceleration center of “Pax Silica,” aiming to support emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and future-oriented technologies.
