A friend asked me what time the Thai stock market opens. Here, I’ll share my experience because knowing the opening time is really important if you want to trade stocks well.

The Thai stock market divides trading into two sessions: morning and afternoon. But before the full market opens, there is a pre-open phase that lasts 25 minutes from 9:30 AM to 9:55 AM. During this time, the system arranges pending buy and sell orders to give a rough idea of the opening price.

Then comes the random time period (9:55 AM - 10:00 AM), during which the system randomly selects the actual market opening time to prevent price manipulation. So, the actual opening time isn’t fixed; it could be 9:55 AM or 10:00 AM, depending on the system’s randomness.

Once the market opens, the morning trading session runs from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. This is when stock prices tend to be quite volatile because of many pending orders and the morning news.

After that, the market pauses from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, then reopens for the afternoon session. There is a new pre-open phase from 2:00 PM to 2:25 PM, followed by a random time period from 2:25 PM to 2:30 PM, similar to the morning. The afternoon trading session runs from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

As the market approaches closing time, from 4:30 PM onward, it enters the pre-close phase (4:30 PM - 4:35 PM) and a random closing time period (4:35 PM - 4:40 PM), during which the system randomly chooses the actual closing time.

What you need to remember is that the market doesn’t open at a fixed time each day because of these random periods. So, if you want to trade during the opening, you should be ready from 9:30 AM. Also, understand that the opening period is when stock prices are most volatile because of pending orders from the previous day and morning news, which cause significant market movement. If you grasp this well, you’ll be able to trade more effectively.
