Just spent way too much time comparing commodity trading platforms and honestly, the options are pretty wild. So if you're thinking about getting into commodities like oil, gold, or agricultural stuff, here's what I found.
Most of these platforms work through CFDs, which basically means you don't actually own the commodity but can still profit whether prices go up or down. That's the main appeal for most traders. The big names everyone talks about are Mitrade, eToro, Plus500, and IG Group, but they each have their thing.
Mitrade seems to be what people recommend most for beginners because it's straightforward and the spreads are tight. eToro has this copy trading feature which is interesting if you want to mirror what experienced traders are doing. Plus500 keeps it simple with no commissions. IG Group is more for the serious analysts with their research tools. CMC Markets if you want advanced charting. The others like Saxo Bank, Interactive Brokers, and AvaTrade are more niche depending on what you're trying to do.
Fees are all over the place though. Some charge spreads from 0.02% to 0.4%, others do it differently. The leverage varies too - some offer up to 1:400 for certain commodities which is pretty aggressive. If you're just starting, definitely demo trade first because commodities move fast and you can lose money quick.
The real question is what commodities you actually want to trade. Energy, metals, agricultural stuff - they all have different dynamics. And your experience level matters. If you're new, skip the super complex platforms. If you know what you're doing, you might want something with better tools and research.
Anyone else trading commodities through these platforms? Which one did you end up going with?
