Just spent way too much time researching commodities trading platforms for 2026 because I wanted to get into trading oil and gold without actually holding the physical stuff. Turns out there are way more options than I thought.
So basically, the whole commodities space has exploded - you can trade energy (oil, gas), precious metals, industrial metals, even agricultural stuff like wheat and coffee. The cool part is most platforms let you use CFDs, which means you don't need to own the actual commodity. You can go long or short depending on your strategy, which is pretty flexible.
I looked at like eight different trading platforms for commodities and honestly, they're all doing something different. Mitrade seems solid if you want low fees and a beginner-friendly setup - they've got tight spreads and up to 1:200 leverage on some metals. eToro has this social trading thing where you can copy other traders' moves, which is interesting if you're just starting out. Plus500 keeps it simple with no commissions, just spreads. IG Group is more for the research nerds with advanced charting tools. CMC Markets and Saxo Bank are pretty complex if you're not experienced.
The comparison really comes down to what matters to you. If you want the lowest fees and easiest interface, Mitrade and AvaTrade are decent picks. If you're serious and want deep market access, Interactive Brokers is the move, though it's harder to navigate. Most of these trading platforms for commodities charge spreads instead of commissions, which is better than it sounds.
I'm probably going to start with a demo account first because the spreads and fees add up fast. And honestly, commodities can swing hard - oil moved 3% in a day according to the data I saw. So yeah, definitely not putting in money I can't afford to lose.
Anyone else trading commodities? What platform are you using?
