On May 15, 2026, the Senate confirmed Kevin Warsh as the 17th Federal Reserve Chair with a vote of 54 to 45. The 56-year-old financier officially succeeds Jerome Powell as the head of the U.S. central bank. The 54-to-45 vote margin is also the narrowest approval for a Federal Reserve Chair appointment since 1977.

At first glance, the crypto market received this as a “friendly signal”—Warsh is the first Federal Reserve Chair in history to explicitly hold crypto assets in his financial disclosures. However, the variable that truly deserves attention is not his personal holdings, but his long-standing push for an aggressive balance-sheet reduction plan: a significant downsizing of the Federal Reserve’s current balance sheet of about $6.7 trillion. With expectations that short-term liquidity will be withdrawn, risk assets such as Bitcoin will face a highly complex policy environment.

What Warsh’s crypto holdings imply

Warsh’s financial disclosure shows that his and his wife’s combined assets are at least $192 million, with crypto-related investments covering more than 20 blockchain and digital asset entities. Specific holdings include well-known projects and funds such as Solana, dYdX, Optimism, Polymarket, Dapper Labs, and Polychain Capital. In addition, he has invested in DeFi lending protocols like Compound, as well as derivatives trading.
