I just checked if the stock exchange is open today in Madrid, and honestly, many people are not clear on when it opens and closes. Here's a quick summary: from Monday to Friday, it opens at 9:00 am and closes at 5:30 pm (local time). Before that, there is an opening auction starting at 8:30 am, so technically you can start trading a little earlier if you want.

What most people don't know is that the stock exchange in Madrid is only open today if it's not a weekend or holiday. On Saturdays and Sundays, it’s closed, and in 2026, it will also be closed on dates like New Year’s, Holy Week, May 1st, and Christmas. If you're not sure whether there’s a session, it's better to check the official calendar.

Now, the IBEX 35 moves within that window from 9 am to 5:30 pm, but the most active trading usually happens in the early hours. After the close, there is a closing auction until 5:35 pm where some pending orders can be executed. If you trade from Latin America, you need to adjust: from Mexico, it’s 1:00 am to 9:30 pm; from Buenos Aires, 4:00 am to 12:30 pm, so it depends on where you are. Do you trade in Madrid or just follow the IBEX?
