Jensen Huang dispels the myth of AI unemployment: it will not eliminate workers, but will create numerous new job opportunities
NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun rejects the AI doomsday theory. He emphasizes that agentic AI will drive a thousandfold increase in compute demand, and says AI is a job-creating “power generator” that can spur the reindustrialization of the United States by boosting productivity.
NVIDIA CEO Huang Renxun recently attended the “Global Conference 2026” AI-era panel hosted by the Milken Institute, a think tank on economic policy. In response to market anxieties that artificial intelligence (AI) could trigger large-scale unemployment, Huang Renxun remains highly optimistic. He not only dismisses the “AI doomsday theory,” but also directly states that AI is an important engine for reindustrializing the United States and creating job opportunities. In addition, he also revealed that the next wave of “agentic AI” will drive unprecedented demand for GPU computing as well as a surge in infrastructure investment.
Agentic AI is on the rise! It will drive a thousandfold explosion in GPU computing demand
At the event, Huang Renxun stressed that generative AI has already brought major changes worldwide. However, the coming development of “agentic AI” will require processing power 1,000 times greater than that of generative AI, which will cause the market’s demand for GPUs to keep soaring. He pointed out that the AI industry is driven by a new type of industrial facility. The hardware produced by these facilities is an essential key infrastructure for the AI industry. Building, producing, and operating within this ecosystem will inevitably create massive labor demand for society—just like other parts of the rapidly growing AI industry supply chain.
Breaking the unemployment myth: AI boosts productivity instead of replacing workers
Addressing public concerns that AI will cause large-scale unemployment, Huang Renxun said clearly, “AI is a large-scale industrial power generator that creates jobs.” When the moderator asked whether AI development moving too fast could lead to social disorder and increased inequality, Huang Renxun explained that many people mix up the “purpose of work” with “work tasks.” Even if AI can automate and take over certain specific individual tasks, employees’ broader roles and core value within corporate organizations still exist. He emphasized that AI’s primary purpose is to improve productivity and accelerate scientific discovery—not simply to eliminate workers.
Huang Renxun: Overhyping the “AI doomsday theory” will hinder national development
Beyond economic impacts, Huang Renxun also outlined a blueprint for AI’s applications across various professional fields. He proposed an open-source AI “swarm” concept for network security, and he expects real-time AI analysis to completely upend medical diagnostic models. He also expressed concern about the United States’ hesitation in developing AI, believing that exaggerated sci-fi doomsday stories have frightened the public, causing people to be afraid of—and even unwilling to engage with—AI. This could hinder the country’s leadership position in this field. To that end, he strongly advocates for responsible AI development and calls for cross-border cooperation on international safety standards.
Will AI disrupt the economy? The job market still needs long-term testing
Although Huang Renxun downplays claims that AI has self-awareness and poses risks to human survival, debates in the market about AI’s long-term economic impact are still full of contention. Some critics argue that most doomsday narratives actually originate from the AI industry itself, used as a gimmick to generate buzz and marketing heat, while the actual capabilities often fall short of what is being promoted.
In addition, even though NVIDIA is confident about AI-driven job opportunities, some forecasts from authoritative financial and academic institutions are relatively more conservative. They point out that over the next few years, as much as 15% of job opportunities in the United States could disappear due to the adoption of AI. The long-term and tangible impact of AI on the overall economy and the labor market still needs more time and further validation by the market.
