The two Federal Reserve officials nominated by Trump oppose Powell's "indefinite" tenure as acting Federal Reserve Chair

Deep Tide TechFlow, May 17: According to the UK’s Financial Times, two Federal Reserve governors nominated by President Trump—Miran and Bowman—have jointly opposed allowing Powell to serve as Acting Chair of the Federal Reserve “without time limits.”

The disagreement highlights the intensifying internal political rifts within the central bank as the White House continues to exert pressure on the Fed. Powell’s second term officially ended on May 15 (Friday). Before his official successor, Wosch, takes office, he has been appointed to carry out the duties as acting chair.

In a joint statement, Miran and Bowman said that, in principle, they support Powell taking on the role of interim chair in the short term, but they cannot support an arrangement that is “without time limits.” Miran voted against, while Bowman chose to abstain. The two suggested the arrangement should be limited to a “clearly defined and limited time frame,” at least one week, and at most one month.
