Recently, someone asked me what time the US stock market opens, so I went ahead and organized it to avoid having to look it up every time. Right now, it’s daylight saving time. Regular trading hours for the US stock market are from 9:30 PM to 4:00 AM Taiwan time, with pre-market starting from 4:30 PM and after-hours until 8:00 PM. During standard time, the schedule is pushed back by one hour, so if you want to trade US stocks from Taiwan, you’ll need to get used to staying up late or waking up early.

There are three main exchanges for US stocks: the New York Stock Exchange is the largest, NASDAQ is an electronic trading market, and the US Securities Exchange mainly focuses on mid- and small-cap stocks. However, in most cases, their opening and closing times are synchronized, so you don’t need to worry too much about time zone differences.

One more thing to note is that the US stock market will close for public holidays. In 2026, there will be many holidays with closures—for example, New Year’s Day in January, Memorial Day in May, Independence Day in July, and Thanksgiving in November. The day after Thanksgiving and the day before Christmas will close three hours early, so it’s best to check in advance whether it’s a market holiday to avoid waiting for nothing.

What time the US stock market opens is essentially a matter of time difference. Remember: during daylight saving time it’s 9:30 PM, and during standard time it’s 10:30 PM (Taiwan time). If you often trade US stocks, you can set an alarm; otherwise it’s easy to miss important opening moves.
