Just so you know, I found out who the richest player in the world is, and it's not who we think. Everyone imagines it's Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, but actually the title goes to a guy named Faiq Bolkiah — he has a fortune of about 20 billion dollars. But there's a catch: his wealth doesn't come from football, it comes from inheritance. He's the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei, so basically he was born a billionaire.

But then it gets interesting — if we look at who really got rich playing ball, the ranking changes. Mathieu Flamini, a former Arsenal player, built a fortune of 14 billion by founding a bioproducts company. Like, the guy left football and became a billionaire entrepreneur. Cristiano Ronaldo with his 500 million is more modest in comparison, but the truth is he earned that through huge salaries, global advertising, and side businesses like hotels and gyms.

Speaking of salaries, in 2025 Cristiano was earning 220 million a year just on the field, plus 65 million in advertising. Messi at the time was making 60 million on the field and 75 in advertising. It’s really crazy. The richest active player is basically the one who managed to turn his name into a brand — it’s not just about scoring goals, it’s about investments outside of football.

And then when you look at the clubs, Real Madrid leads with 6.6 billion, Manchester United with 6.5 billion. These teams have become money-making machines. Football stopped being just a sport a long time ago — it’s pure business now.
