So I discovered something pretty crazy while reading about the richest players in the world — the guy who leads isn't even Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi. It's a guy named Faiq Bolkiah, a player from Brunei with an estimated fortune of $20 billion. Basically inherited everything from the royal family, so technically he's a soccer player, but his wealth came more from birth than from the sport itself.

But then it gets interesting: among the richest players in the world who actually built wealth by playing, there's Mathieu Flamini (former Arsenal) who became a billionaire after founding a biochemistry company. Like, he left football to become an entrepreneur, and it worked out very well. Cristiano Ronaldo is third with $500 million, but he earns more per year in salary than anyone — $220 million in 2025 alone, between football and advertising.

The ranking of the richest players in the world shows that nowadays, making money in football goes far beyond just playing well. It’s personal brand, advertising contracts, investments. Messi has $400 million, Beckham too, but most of them built that outside the field. Like, football has really become a business, it’s not just passion. The clubs have also become absurd — Real Madrid is worth $6.6 billion, Manchester United $6.5 billion. The football industry is on another level.
