Beginner's Guide to Market Prediction—My New Version Experience
Gate Prediction Market has been upgraded again and again, and the new version of the prediction market product went live on May 11. Currently, Gate is among the top three channels for Polymarket integration performance. As a newcomer, I want to share my experience using it over this period and offer some tips for new users—be sure to read until the end!
Getting to the main point, here are a few reasons why I give this upgrade a big thumbs up!
1. The search system is more refined, and content categorization is clearer
Previously, finding prediction targets was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Now, the new search is so thoughtful—just input a fuzzy keyword, and you can pinpoint the exact result, with highlights for the matches. No more flipping through pages to find trending events. Plus, the homepage’s “Live & Hot” section directly displays high-interest events and trading hotspots right in front of you.
Content categories are also more detailed and clearer than before. Subsections like Recommendations, Sports, and Crypto are easy to see at a glance. Even if fuzzy search occasionally doesn’t find what you want, you can quickly locate targets through detailed category searches.
2. More diverse sports betting options, familiar version for me
For sports events, new options like point spreads and total points have been added. It’s much more interesting than the previous simple win/lose predictions, and the strategic element is fully enhanced. Those used to sports betting and guessing games should find this very familiar. Today, I placed two bets: one on the total points in the NBA Cavaliers vs. Pistons game, and another on the single-quarter score between Spurs and Timberwolves. One was a win, one a loss—small profit overall.
3. Fast and convenient trading, saying goodbye to manual translation
Another improvement is that order execution response speed has significantly increased. Plus, with AI translation, reading the target info and placing orders has become smoother (even though my English is limited). Overall, the trading experience is very fluid. As an integrated trading platform, achieving this level of smoothness is already impressive.
4. “Performance” clearer, follow top traders with one click
The new leaderboard feature is also very good. I had previously suggested adding a “follow trader” function for prediction markets—since regular players know how important it is to have someone leading the way. Now, with data like profit/loss, trading volume, and holding value, I can quickly identify who the real “Octopus Paul” is and follow the top traders to fly together.
Finally, some personal tips and experiences from a newbie:
1. Be sure to read the official rules first, understand Polymarket’s basic rules, user responsibilities, and tasks. Most importantly, learn how Polymarket works—it’s not just about betting on whether an event will happen. Instead, you can profit from buying and selling “probability differences” based on the event’s probability fluctuations.
2. Start with prediction mode: It’s recommended for beginners to familiarize themselves with the market through prediction mode, as the display of probabilities and odds is more intuitive.
3. Read the rules before placing bets: Each market has descriptions and settlement rules. Be sure to read carefully before participating.
4. Start with small amounts: For your first trades, only use a small amount of USDT (like 5-10 USDT). Once you’re familiar with the process, gradually increase your investment.
5. Pay attention to liquidity: Choose markets with high trading volume, as smaller bid-ask spreads and smoother transactions will make trading easier.
Oh, and for those who haven’t used prediction markets yet, here’s a treasure map for you: make sure your app is upgraded to version v8.15 or above. You can access it through the bottom “Markets” → “Alpha Prediction” on the homepage!
