Highlights of the Xi-Trump Meeting » Elon Musk's son X Æ A-Xii attended, took a photo with Lei Jun showing a "divine expression" that went viral
The Xi–Biden summit takes the stage. Elon Musk brings his son X Æ A-Xii to attend and reveals that he is currently learning Chinese; his funny facial expression when taking a selfie with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also becomes a focus of discussion on social media. During the meeting, both sides from China and the U.S. held in-depth discussions on tariffs, the Taiwan issue, and economic cooperation.
Highlights from the Xi–Biden Summit: Musk’s Son Attends, Lei Jun’s Group Photo Becomes the Focus
The much-anticipated Xi–Biden summit debuted yesterday (5/14), and Tesla and X owner Elon Musk contributed two major trending “behind-the-scenes” moments to the community.
First, he attended together with his 6-year-old son X Æ A-Xii and, on the social media platform, revealed in Simplified Chinese that his son is learning Mandarin; second, the expression Elon Musk made while taking a selfie with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun sparked all sorts of interpretations and discussions on social media.
Musk brings son X Æ A-Xii to the Xi–Biden summit
According to The Sun, Musk brought his 6-year-old son X Æ A-Xii to the Xi–Biden summit.
From the leaked images, X Æ A-Xii can be seen wearing dark long pants, a white shirt, and a light-blue traditional Chinese silk vest with green embroidery. He is holding a brown dragon-shaped crossbody bag in his hand. He followed his father into the conference room full of suits and entered while holding his father’s hand.
After the related video was shared by the Chinese Twitter account “Teacher Li is not Your Teacher,” Musk also responded in Simplified Chinese: “My son is learning Mandarin.” This action drew widespread attention and even caused “Musk posting in Chinese” to briefly top China’s Weibo hot search list.

However, X Æ A-Xii’s mother, Canadian singer-songwriter Grimes, does not like her young son showing up at various large public events.
Last year, after Musk took X Æ A-Xii to the White House to witness Trump signing an executive order, Grimes had said she was unaware of it and believed her son should not be brought into the public spotlight like this.
Lei Jun of Xiaomi takes a selfie with Musk
Another topic that sparked discussion on social media is Lei Jun of Xiaomi taking a selfie with Musk. According to Forbes, based on the footage that was released, when Lei Jun asked to take a photo with him, Musk made a slight eye-rolling expression, but after the photo was taken, he exhaled, then looked down and started scrolling on his phone.
The seemingly amusing scene—“Musk’s social energy was used up”—spread quickly across Chinese social media, and “Lei Jun and Musk photo” also made it into the top three on Weibo’s hot search list. Some netizens humorously said that Lei Jun lowered his stance in front of his idol.
Lei Jun has expressed admiration for Musk, and he is also one of the first Chinese owners of a Tesla Model S. And since he led Xiaomi’s investment in the electric vehicle market in 2021, the brand has become one of the rivals competing with Tesla’s Model Y in the Chinese market.
Musk and tech giants, politicians dining at the same table
At this Xi–Biden summit, sitting at the meeting table alongside Musk were also Apple CEO Tim Cook (soon to step down), U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Trump and Xi Jinping held a meeting lasting for two hours to discuss the current tariff truce agreement and the issue of Taiwan’s sovereignty.
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Xi Jinping emphasized to Trump that the Taiwan issue is the most important part of China–U.S. relations. If handled properly, bilateral relations can remain generally stable; otherwise, the two countries will face conflict and plunge the entire China–U.S. relationship into a highly dangerous situation. At the same time, Xi Jinping also stated that the two countries must become partners and avoid becoming rivals.
The U.S. White House also revealed on social media that both sides discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries, including expanding opportunities for U.S. companies to enter the China market and increasing investment in China.
China’s official media outlet Xinhua also reported that during the meeting Xi Jinping said China’s door will open even wider, welcoming the U.S. to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with China, and expressing confidence that U.S. businesses will enjoy broader prospects in China.
