I've always wondered how much a real YouTuber makes, you know? Because we see many influencers talking about huge earnings, but the reality is quite different depending on where you are in the journey.

After doing a lot of research, I realized that the numbers vary too much. A small channel, with fewer than 10,000 subscribers, earns around 100 to 500 reais per month — basically from AdSense itself. But then, the game changes: the more you diversify monetization, the more you grow. Affiliates, product sales, SuperChat during live streams, first sponsorships.

Now, how much does a YouTuber with a solid base earn? That’s a different story. Medium channels, with 50,000 to 500,000 subscribers, make between 2,000 and 5,000 per month. Large channels, with a million subscribers, easily surpass 20,000 monthly — and some go over 100,000 when they land bigger advertising campaigns.

What I found interesting is that at the very top, creators with tens of millions of followers earn between 200,000 and 3 million per month. But that’s an exception, not the rule.

For those just starting out, AdSense alone pays very little. Real growth comes from engagement, not just the number of subscribers. You need to think strategically: consistent content, technical quality, eye-catching thumbnails.

Regarding ways to make money, YouTube offers several. There’s the obvious — Google AdSense ads, where the creator gets 55% of the revenue. Then there’s SuperChat during live streams, Channel Memberships (subscriptions you set from 1.99 to 2,699.99 reais, and you receive 70%), affiliate marketing that can yield up to 80% commission, and also YouTube Premium, which distributes part of the subscription revenue among creators.

But how much a YouTuber really earns depends on when they started monetizing. You only join the Partner Program with 1,000 subscribers, 4,000 hours watched on long videos, or 10 million in Shorts. After reaching $100 accumulated, then you start to receive.

The numbers per view are roughly like this: about $0.018 per view, CPM ranges between $0.25 and $4.50 per thousand views. That means 20,000 views generate between $36 and $60.

The truth is, turning YouTube into a solid income requires dedication, a well-planned editorial calendar, consistent technical quality. It’s not just posting videos and waiting. Beginners shouldn’t get discouraged by small earnings at first — what matters is the growth curve. With consistency, it’s possible to turn a small channel into a legitimate source of income.
