Yum Brands’ tech chief on building its ‘AI backbone’

Yum Brands, parent company of Taco Bell, KFC, and Pizza Hut, has heavily invested in AI and digital transformation over the past few years, with digital sales at Taco Bell growing from 1% to 70% since 2019. Jim Dausch, Yum’s chief digital and technology officer and president of Byte by Yum, discussed the company’s efforts to modernize its decades-old tech stack and create a common data model across its 35,000 restaurants. The company is using AI to drive innovation, enhance customer growth, and simplify operations, emphasizing that AI is a tool to support their core business of delivering great food and service.
