Recently, I came across a fascinating story about the crypto community that deserves to be told. Dorian Nakamoto, the name that for a decade has been associated with the mystery of Satoshi Nakamoto, has decided to set the record straight once and for all.

It all started in March 2014 when Newsweek published an investigation claiming to have identified the anonymous creator of Bitcoin. The details seemed convincing: Dorian Nakamoto, a resident of California, had Japanese origins, libertarian ideas, and during an interview, gave a vague response when asked about Bitcoin. He said something like "I'm no longer involved in this matter, it has been handed over to other people." For many, this sounded like a confession.

But here’s the twist. Dorian later explained that the journalist was actually asking him about previous defense projects, not Bitcoin. He repeatedly emphasized that he had never participated in the development of Bitcoin and didn’t even understand the technology. Even Satoshi Nakamoto himself stepped in on forums saying "I am not Dorian."

When I look at Dorian’s background, it makes sense. He’s an engineer with programming skills, has worked for the Federal Aviation Administration solving problems with air traffic control equipment. He has never worked in the cryptography sector. Over the past ten years, he has faced significant personal challenges: working as a laborer, investigator, substitute teacher, and dealing with serious health issues.

Newsweek highlighted gaps in his resume, but Dorian provided concrete explanations for each period. Financial difficulties, prostate surgery in 2012, a stroke in 2013, employment issues as an engineer. Not exactly the profile of someone secretly developing Bitcoin’s code.

What strikes me about this story is how Dorian Nakamoto was involuntarily dragged into the whirlpool of speculation. He had to hire a legal advisor and publicly begged the world to respect his privacy and that of his family. In 2014, his life changed radically because of this misunderstanding.

The crypto community continued to speculate anyway. Maybe it was the physical resemblance, maybe the Japanese origin, maybe the age that matched the theories about Satoshi. But the reality is that Dorian Nakamoto is not the father of Bitcoin. He is simply a man who was unlucky enough to have the right name at the wrong time, when HBO was about to launch a documentary and the media were looking for a sensational story.
