Pony Ma Responds to Concerns About Tencent's AI Lag: 'We Thought We Were on Board, But Found the Ship Leaking'
On May 13, during Tencent’s shareholder meeting, Chairman and CEO Pony Ma provided the most candid response to date regarding concerns about whether Tencent’s AI is lagging behind. He stated, “A year ago, we thought we were on board, but later found that the ship was leaking. Now, we feel like we are on board, but we haven’t settled in yet. We hope the ship can go a bit faster.” Ma acknowledged the company’s tumultuous journey in the field of artificial intelligence and humorously illustrated the current situation: they are on the ship but have not yet found their footing. He also emphasized that Tencent may not be the fastest in seizing opportunities in the industry, but they are committed to following the right path and leveraging their unique advantages steadily. “We can’t just look at others and casually jump over to seize their territory. We have done that in the past but ultimately failed,” he added. (Wall Street Journal)
