I often need to register overseas accounts and test SMS verification interfaces recently, and I found that directly buying SIM cards is not cost-effective, so I started researching various SMS receiving platforms. To be honest, these platforms are quite complex; some of them rarely receive messages, some have delays of an hour or two. Eventually, I figured out the tricks and found a few decent SMS receiving services.

Let's talk about what SMS receiving platforms are. Basically, they rent virtual numbers to receive SMS verification codes, and you can pay per use or subscribe monthly. This not only protects privacy but also avoids wasting real phone numbers. I mainly use them to test interfaces and register small accounts. The platforms I’ve experienced most deeply are these.

SMS-Activate is the most user-friendly; verification codes arrive within about 10 seconds, and it covers all countries, making it perfect for cross-border application testing. Super Cloud SMS performs well with domestic number segments; US numbers receive messages in 10-30 seconds, Chinese numbers even faster, within 5-20 seconds, though it can be slower during peak times. 5SIM has a friendly interface, clear API documentation, and works well for testing Google and Twitter, with good stability.

For domestic applications, Xiaoniao SMS and Getsmscode are also okay. Xiaoniao SMS can receive messages within 5-15 seconds on common e-commerce and social apps, offering good value. Getsmscode is cheap, suitable for light use, but may be slow on less popular platforms.

When using SMS receiving services, be aware that some numbers are shared, which can lead to being already registered or receiving delayed codes, especially for less common countries or apps. My experience is that if you're just testing interfaces, choosing any platform that supports API is enough. But for registering overseas websites, it’s best to prepare multiple numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is very practical.

Additionally, I recommend choosing reputable, active platforms. Don’t just buy cheap ones randomly; SMS receiving platforms are not meant for long-term main numbers, and privacy and security cannot be fully guaranteed. Based on my tests, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stably, with low latency and broad country coverage, worth trying.
