Just checked out the latest cost of living rankings and Switzerland is absolutely dominating. All six of the top spots in the most expensive city in the world list are Swiss cities—Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Lausanne, Lugano, and Bern. It's wild how concentrated that is.

Zurich takes the crown at 112.5, which means you're paying about 12.5% more than New York just to exist there. Geneva's right behind at 111.4, and Basel comes in third at 110.7. These aren't small margins either. We're talking serious money for housing, food, and everyday stuff.

What's interesting is how the US cities stack up. New York sits at the benchmark with 100 points, so it's the priciest in America but only seventh globally. Then you've got San Francisco (90.7), Seattle (86), and Boston (82.7) all fighting for space—basically all the tech hubs with crazy housing demand. Even LA and San Diego made the top 25 at 76.3 each.

Singapore's the only major Asian city really competing in this most expensive city in the world conversation, sitting at 85.3. Oslo, Copenhagen, and a few other European cities round out the upper tier too.

It's pretty clear that if you want affordable living, you're not picking Switzerland or the US coasts. The wealth concentration in these places drives everything up.
