[Caixin] BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke recently told Bloomberg that the company is in talks with European automakers such as Stellantis to take over local underutilized factories and utilize idle capacity. A person close to BYD confirmed that the above news is true. Li Ke is a “veteran” of BYD and currently oversees international business.

In early May, Nikkei reported that Nissan plans to shut down its Mexico “COMPAS” factory, which is jointly operated with Mercedes-Benz. Chinese automakers such as BYD and Geely participated in the bidding to take over the factory. BYD had previously intended to invest and build a factory independently in Mexico, but this plan did not materialize.
