OpenAI is considering taking legal action against Apple over Siri integrating ChatGPT
BlockBeats News, May 15th, according to Fortune, OpenAI is considering legal action against Apple due to dissatisfaction with how ChatGPT has been integrated into Siri and its commercialization methods, believing that the partnership has failed to effectively convert users to paid ChatGPT subscriptions and may involve breach of contractual expectations.
Sources say that the two parties initially reached a partnership about two years ago, with Apple integrating ChatGPT to enhance Siri’s ability to handle complex questions, while OpenAI leveraged the Apple ecosystem to expand user reach. However, OpenAI has expressed “disappointment” with the current presentation and traffic flow of ChatGPT within Siri.
It is reported that OpenAI’s legal team has collaborated with external law firms to evaluate various response options, including potential litigation. Meanwhile, the partnership has become tense, and Apple is also exploring further cooperation opportunities with competitors of OpenAI.
Analysts believe that the core of the dispute lies in the issue of business ownership and traffic distribution after AI capabilities are embedded into platforms, specifically whether “function embedding without subscription conversion” constitutes a material breach of commercial terms. Currently, both sides have not publicly responded to the litigation matter.
