It’s interesting that at the beginning of this year there was a real explosion in the wealth of the world’s billionaires. The question of who is currently the richest person in the world already has a fairly clear answer—and it has set a new record in history.
Elon Musk surged ahead with a net worth of about $726 billion. Those are just crazy numbers, honestly. Never before has one person accumulated so much personal wealth. The growth of his fortune is fueled by the rise of SpaceX, the expansion of Starlink, as well as Tesla shares and his activity in AI and neurotechnology.
Next come other tech giants. Larry Page, one of the founders of Google, holds second place with approximately $270 billion. Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, rounds out the top three with $255 billion. Interestingly, most people in the top are in one way or another connected to artificial intelligence, cloud computing, or space technology.
Also in the top 10 are Sergey Brin ($251 billion), Larry Ellison ($248 billion), Mark Zuckerberg ($233 billion), Bernard Arnault ($205 billion), Steve Ballmer ($170 billion), Jensen Huang ($156 billion), and Warren Buffett ($151 billion). It’s noticeable that most of them are founders or early investors in tech companies whose valuations simply skyrocketed.
What’s driving this boom? First, exponential growth in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. Second, the revaluation of companies in the space and semiconductor industries. Third, the dominance of American tech companies in the global market. And, of course, the long-term bets of founders who held onto their shares and now see their value soaring.
Who is the richest person in the world right now is no longer just a matter of curiosity—it reflects how technology and innovation are rewriting the rules of the financial world. It will be interesting to see what happens next to this ranking.
