Deep Tide TechFlow News, May 15, According to Cointelegraph, privacy communication app Signal stated that if required to comply with Canada’s proposed lawful access bill “Bill C-22,” the company might withdraw from the Canadian market. Signal’s Vice President of Strategy and Global Affairs, Udbhav Tiwari, said that the bill could force service providers to establish technical monitoring capabilities and retain some user metadata for up to one year, which could weaken end-to-end encryption and increase the risk of cyberattacks. The report states that “Bill C-22” has not yet officially come into effect and still needs to go through parliamentary review and approval procedures. Besides Signal, VPN service provider Windscribe also indicated that if the bill passes, they might follow suit and exit Canada.
