Just looked back at Pakistan's currency story over the past 77 years, and it's actually wild how much the rupee has weakened against the dollar. Started at 3.31 PKR per dollar in 1947 and pretty much stayed flat until the mid-50s. Then things got interesting.

The real pressure started showing up in the 70s when it jumped from 4.76 to 11 PKR, then kept sliding through the 80s and 90s. By 1999 we're already at 51.90 PKR, basically doubled from a decade earlier. But here's where it gets rough - 2008 onwards was brutal. Hit 81 PKR, then 84, then kept climbing. The 2018 dollar rate in pakistan really accelerated the decline, jumping to 139.21 PKR in that year alone.

Fast forward to 2019 and it's 163.75, then 2020 hit 168.88, and by 2022 we're looking at 240 PKR per dollar. Last year 286, now sitting around 277 in 2024. That's an 80x depreciation in less than 80 years. The currency has basically lost most of its value, especially in recent years. The 2018 dollar rate in pakistan was kind of a turning point where the decline really accelerated. Worth keeping an eye on these macro trends if you're trading or holding any exposure to emerging markets.
