I just saw an updated list of the largest countries in the world, and I was quite surprised at how the perspective changes when you see the actual numbers. Russia completely dominates with over 17 million km², almost twice as much as Canada. What I found interesting is that many of these giant countries have very different population densities.
For example, India with 3.3 million km² has more people than Russia with 17 million. And then there are those huge African countries like the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Algeria, and Sudan that rank high on the list, but most people don't think of them when they think of the largest countries in the world.
Mexico, Indonesia, Iran... all have impressive land areas. The truth is, these geographic data make you rethink how you visualize the planet. Have you ever paid attention to what the actual largest countries in the world are? Because most people probably wouldn't guess the top 10.
