There's a case that has always left a deep impression on me. In spring 2022, Sylwester Suszek, the founder of a Polish crypto exchange, mysteriously disappeared at the age of 34. This guy was known locally as the "Bitcoin King," but he vanished bizarrely at a gas station, and the security camera happened to be broken that day—pretty unbelievable.
After the disappearance, the police searched for a long time but couldn't find any clues. But Suszek's sister Nicole didn't give up; she continued her own investigation. She discovered some strange things—his phone suddenly logged into a mobile network four days after he went missing, and it was moving along a highway.
Nicole also received some disturbing messages. Someone sent her an audio clip claiming to be her brother's voice, but it sounded very strange, like it had been electronically processed. In that recording, the voice demanded that Nicole obtain Bitcoin worth 12 million PLN and transfer it to the address specified in the email. It also included a message: "This is not a joke; there will be a photo of a corpse in a week."
Nicole didn't make the transfer. Later, she received more recordings, all filled with threats, even mentioning dismemberment, and demanding that Suszek be brought home before Easter. The whole thing sounds like a carefully planned kidnapping and extortion case.
Nicole's analysis was straightforward: "If you look at these facts, aside from the conclusion that he was kidnapped and murdered, all other scenarios seem unlikely." Although the body hasn't been found, she is convinced that the worst has already happened.
To this day, Nicole continues to search for answers while facing threats herself. The case remains unsolved. This story reminds us that even in the crypto world, success can come with unexpected risks.
