Just scrolled through Pakistan's currency history and wow, the depreciation story is wild 📉 Back in 1947 when Pakistan became independent, 1 dollar to PKR in 1947 was just 3.31. That's insane to think about now.

For almost a decade, the rupee held steady at that rate. Then things started shifting in the mid-50s, creeping up to around 4-5 PKR per dollar. But the real acceleration? That came much later. By the late 80s it was already at 20 PKR, and from there it just kept sliding.

The 2000s saw consistent pressure—went from 51 PKR to 81 PKR by 2008. Then 2018-2019 hit different, jumping to 139 and then 163 PKR. And we're not done yet. 2022 saw it hit 240, 2023 peaked at 286, and now in 2024 it's sitting around 277.

That's roughly an 80x depreciation in 77 years. Wild when you think about what happened to people's savings and purchasing power. The rupee's been under serious pressure, especially in recent years.
