Ever thought about what the total amount of money in the world actually looks like? I was digging into this and the numbers are honestly mind-blowing.
So if you just count physical cash—coins and banknotes—we're talking around 6.6 trillion dollars floating around globally. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. When you factor in bank deposits, liquid assets, and everything sitting in accounts, you're looking at tens of trillions. The total amount of money in the world when you include all that gets closer to 37 trillion in US currency equivalent.
Here's where it gets crazy though. If you add investments, derivatives, cryptocurrencies and all those financial instruments, the total amount of money in the world—or more accurately, the total value of financial assets—balloons to over 1.2 quadrillion dollars. Yeah, you read that right. Quadrillion.
Which brings me to the real question that got me thinking: what's our actual slice of this pie? 🫣 Like, we're all grinding and accumulating wealth, but when you zoom out and see these numbers, it puts things in perspective. Bitcoin and crypto are still such a tiny fraction of all this, which is why I think there's still massive room for growth in this space.
Makes you wonder where your money fits into all this, doesn't it?
