Recently, I watched a Netflix documentary about one of the biggest scams in cryptocurrency history, and honestly, it's worth watching for anyone considering investing in this sector. Ray Trapani's story is a lesson on how easily the market can be manipulated when regulation is lacking.

The entire scenario is absurd. Ray Trapani, a guy with addiction problems, decided to get rich quickly. He claimed that cryptocurrencies are an unregulated field and started building Centra Tech. First, he copied an existing website, then created a fake CEO profile using a picture of his grandfather. He presented himself as a Harvard graduate, and somehow managed to get it approved.

What Ray Trapani did next was pure genius in terms of deception. He launched an advertising campaign funded by small transaction fees. The campaign gained momentum, and suddenly big names started supporting the project. Floyd Mayweather, a former boxer, and DJ Khaled, a music producer, promoted Centra Tech. No one checked the facts.

And here’s the catch: Ray Trapani and his team raised $170 million, but did nothing to deliver anything. Instead, they spent the money on luxury vacations, expensive cars, and an extravagant lifestyle. Of course, users eventually caught on and started criticizing the project.

Finally, the SEC woke up. They accused the team of illegal ICO promotion and hiding payments from influencers. Ray Trapani and others pleaded guilty, were convicted, and sent to prison.

This shows how important it is to do research before investing in anything on the cryptocurrency market. Ray Trapani’s story is a warning about how simple these projects really are and how easy it is to get scammed if you're not careful. The Netflix documentary is really worth watching to understand what the pitfalls are and how to distinguish legitimate projects from those that are outright scams from the start.
