Recently, I noticed that Baidu did something quite interesting at the industry conference. They open-sourced their Orion AI engine and jointly launched the Nebula Project, aiming to turn this into an industry-level solution.

The core approach is like this: Orion integrates the capabilities of Wenxin Assistant, and through multi-skill orchestration, it can connect Baidu’s search and service resources in e-commerce, travel, health, and other fields. Simply put, it connects information queries all the way through to task completion, forming a complete closed loop. The MCP service part is also quite key; developers can directly access industry-specific modules, and revenue sharing is possible, which is quite attractive to manufacturers.

It’s clear that the response to this plan has been quite positive. Leading smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Honor, and Vivo have already joined in. This indicates that everyone is optimistic about Orion’s potential for mobile application. This kind of open collaboration approach is indeed a trend in the AI era—by opening capabilities and involving more partners, the ecosystem can grow larger.

From an industry perspective, Baidu’s move is essentially turning its AI search and service capabilities into a foundational infrastructure. Phone manufacturers can directly integrate Orion’s features, providing a smoother user experience, and developers can benefit through revenue sharing. It seems this logic will be very meaningful in empowering the entire mobile ecosystem.
