Evergreen Highway Accident | Transport Department deeply saddened by the death of operator staff

A Three-Vehicle Collision on the Tsing Yi Longqing Road, at Least Six Injured—One Traffic Control Staff Member in His 50s Trapped Under a Vehicle, Died After Being Taken to Hospital for Rescue

The Transport Department is very concerned about the serious traffic accident on Longqing Road. It is deeply saddened by the death of a contractor’s staff member involved in the incident, and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family. The department has urged the contractor to do everything possible to provide all necessary assistance and support to the family of the deceased.

A spokesperson for the Transport Department said that at the time of the incident, a private car had stopped on the slow lane of Longqing Road heading towards Kowloon, and the staff member subsequently went to the scene to understand the situation and provide assistance. Preliminary investigations indicate that the lane control signal lights near the accident scene had already turned red, showing that the slow lane in that stretch had been closed. In addition, the staff member was wearing a reflective vest and had complied with the guidelines set by the contractor. The patrol car stopped behind the private car had also kept its warning beacon lights on.

The spokesperson emphasized that the department places great importance on work safety. It has all along strictly required contractors to comply with safety guidelines, and will follow up with the contractor as soon as possible to strengthen safety measures. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The Transport Department has asked the contractor to submit a detailed report and to fully cooperate with the police investigation. The department will take appropriate follow-up actions based on the results of the report.
