Pre-market Highlights for U.S. Stocks on May 14

Mars Finance News, May 14 — US stocks pre-market highlights:

  1. The three major US stock index futures all rose. Dow Jones futures gained 0.85%, S&P 500 index futures rose 0.31%, and Nasdaq 100 index futures increased 0.12%.
  2. Major European stock indices all moved higher. The UK FTSE 100 rose 0.37%, France’s CAC40 rose 0.74%, and Germany’s DAX30 rose 1.32%.
  3. International oil prices fell slightly during the day. WTI crude oil futures fell 0.56% to $100.457 per barrel; Brent crude oil futures fell 0.76% to $104.823 per barrel.
  4. International gold and silver futures saw mixed performance. COMEX gold futures rose 0.19% to $4,715.8 per ounce, while COMEX silver futures fell 2.49% to $87.145 per ounce.
  5. In the week ended May 9, the number of initial jobless claims in the US was recorded at 211,000, the highest level since the week of April 18, exceeding market expectations of 205,000.
  6. On May 13, the US Senate officially confirmed Kevin Woor as the Chair of the Federal Reserve in a vote of 54 in favor and 45 against, succeeding Powell.
  7. Microsoft is reportedly seeking to acquire an AI startup to prepare for reducing reliance on partner OpenAI.
  8. GameStop’s CEO fired back at eBay: the $56 billion acquisition offer should not be refused, hinting that the company may take further action.
  9. US AI optical interconnect leader POET jumped more than 23% pre-market. In terms of news, the company has partnered with optical interconnect infrastructure platform Lumilens to promote wafer-level photonic integration.
  10. US congressional legislation aims to further step up efforts to block ASML’s exports to China, and the Dutch government has officially raised objections.
  11. The three major US public pension funds are concerned about SpaceX’s governance structure ahead of its upcoming IPO, and they have asked SpaceX to cancel super voting rights and set up a board where outside shareholders hold a majority.
  12. Anthropic’s CFO said that 90% of the company’s code has been completed by AI, while employees are responsible for checking and oversight. AI chip manufacturer Cerebras Systems will list on Nasdaq tonight; the IPO is priced at $185 and will raise $5.55 billion, the largest IPO size this year so far.
  13. Honda’s financial report shows that in fiscal year 2025 ending in March 2026, sales increased 0.5% year over year to 21.80 trillion yen, operating loss was 414.3 billion yen, and net loss was 353.0 billion yen.
