Just went down a rabbit hole looking at the biggest crypto airdrops from 2023, and the numbers are wild. Arbitrum completely dominated that airdrop season - they dropped nearly $2 billion worth of ARB tokens back in March, which was almost 3x larger than Optimism's distribution. The crazy part? Arbitrum's ecosystem saw its total value locked jump by 147% leading up to that airdrop, people were definitely farming in anticipation.

Celestia came in second with their October 2023 airdrop, but they did things differently - no farming mechanics. They specifically targeted developers, active rollup users, and Cosmos stakers instead of just rewarding everyone. Smart move honestly.

Blur's first airdrop was another massive one, hitting third place with over $450 million distributed to NFT platform users. They followed it up with a second round too, though that one was smaller.

Looking back at the 2023 crypto airdrops data, these three projects alone accounted for almost 70% of all tokens distributed that year. Definitely one of the most memorable airdrop cycles we've seen. The ATH prices have moved since then, but the scale of these distributions still stands out when you look at the broader airdrop history.
