I just reviewed how Messi's wealth has evolved over the past decade, and it's impressive to see how his fortune has more than tripled. Starting from around $280 million in 2016, it reached approximately $900 million in 2026, a growth that reflects much more than just his sports career.

What’s interesting is analyzing when this growth accelerated. Between 2020 and 2021, there was a notable jump, from $400 million to $600 million, probably due to his club transfers and the sponsorship deals that came with them. Then, from 2024 onward, the pace accelerated even more, surpassing $800 million.

This wealth doesn’t come solely from his salary as a footballer, but from a quite lucrative combo: elite contracts with major European teams, record sponsorship agreements with global brands, and strategic commercial partnerships in Europe and the United States. Let’s also add the earnings from success in world tournaments and high-profile transfers that have marked his career.

What catches my attention is that Messi’s wealth continues to grow even after his retirement from professional football. Clearly, he built a solid financial empire during his active years. One more example of how elite athletes worldwide manage to turn their sporting success into sustainable long-term wealth.
