Just saw this: Elon Musk and Starlink are now serious about providing free internet for smartphones.

It's actually crazy when you consider that until now, you always had to buy an expensive antenna.
Now, certain phones can connect directly to the satellites without paying for it.
This works especially conveniently for people in remote areas where there is no regular mobile network anyway.
You can then send messages, share your location, or call 911 in emergencies, all without a cell tower nearby.
The list of compatible devices is actually quite long: iPhone 14 and newer, Google Pixel 9, the new Motorola models from 2024, and many Samsung Galaxy models like the A series (A14, A15, A16, A35, A53, A54) as well as S21 and above.
Initially, this is limited to texts, location sharing, and emergency calls, but later voice and internet calls are also expected to be added.
That would make Starlink internet even more attractive.
If you want to try it out, just sign up on the official Starlink website.
Interesting how quickly satellite internet is becoming practically accessible now.
