Just checked the historical bitcoin price data and it's wild to think about where we started. Back in december 2011, BTC closed out the year at just $4.25 on December 31st. That was actually up over 1,300% for that year alone, which sounds crazy by today's standards.
Now compare that to where bitcoin price is sitting today at around $79.6K. The contrast is pretty insane when you really think about it. That $4.25 closing price in december 2011 represents such an early point in the whole journey. Even with the recent pullback of about 23% over the past year, we're still talking about gains that would make that 2011 trader's head spin.
It's one of those things that reminds you why people got so obsessed with bitcoin in the first place. The price action over 15 years tells the whole story.
