I just found out that Apple removed Bitchat from its App Store in China. Jack Dorsey's decentralized messaging app was removed after the Chinese cyberspace authority requested it. According to the notification shared by Dorsey himself on X, the app violates regulations on information services with attributes of public opinion. The interesting thing is that TestFlight also became unusable in China, but the app remains available in other countries. Bitchat allows peer-to-peer chatting without internet or servers, so I guess the decentralization didn't sit well with Chinese regulators. Jack Dorsey continues with his projects, but clearly China has its own rules.
