Talking about the ISO 20022 financial messaging standard, I've been hearing about it more and more lately, but actually, it's a pretty important topic in the world of cryptocurrencies too.
Cryptocurrencies that comply with this standard announced by SWIFT are actually limited, and Bitcoin and Ethereum are not compatible. But if you think about it, these two were created in 2009 and 2015 respectively, so they existed long before the standard was announced. On the other hand, Ripple's XRP was created in 2012 and later introduced changes to support ISO 20022. That decision was made because Ripple is a private company.
There are actually quite a few major cryptocurrencies that are compliant with ISO 20022. Besides XRP, examples include Stellar's XLM, Cardano's ADA, Hedera's HBAR, Algorand's ALGO, IOTA, and QNT. In total, eight cryptocurrencies are said to be compatible with this standard, but six of them are especially noteworthy.
XRP's movement is interesting. It was below $0.60 in October last year, then steadily rose, recently reaching $1.42. Its all-time high is $3.65. ADA has shown a similar trend, currently at $0.26, with an ATH of $3.09. XLM is at $0.16, and HBAR has dropped to $0.09.
ALGO and IOTA are in a tougher situation. ALGO has fallen over 85% from its all-time high of $3.56, and IOTA has dropped over 90% from its ATH of $5.25. Currently, ALGO is at $0.12, and IOTA is at $0.06. QNT is at $72.82, and XDC is at $0.03.
The transition to ISO 20022 needs to be completed by 2025, so we can't take our eyes off how these compliant cryptocurrencies will move in the future. Especially for tokens like XRP that are actively aligning with the standard, there might be medium- to long-term potential. It might be a good idea to keep an eye on these tokens' movements on Gate.io.
