I just read a story that left me thinking. In the 19th century, in São Paulo, Brazil, there was a man named Pata Seca, a slave nearly 2.18 meters tall whose life was one of the most extraordinary I have ever heard. His owners used him exclusively for reproduction, and according to reports, he fathered between 200 and 300 children during slavery. The incredible thing is that after abolition, he received land, remarried, and managed to have nine more children in freedom. They say Pata Seca lived up to 130 years old, which sounds almost unbelievable. Thousands of people from the area attended his funeral. What impacts me the most is that local residents claim that approximately one-third of the current population of his city descend from his descendants. That is, Pata Seca became the patriarch of an entire community. A life that began in the worst imaginable circumstances and ended up being a symbol of almost legendary resilience. These are the kinds of stories that make you rethink many things about life and destiny.
