Recently, I was asked again about virtual numbers for receiving SMS, so I decided to organize and share a few platforms I’ve used. Honestly, I’ve tried many SMS verification platforms, and some are really terrible—messages are delayed by half a day or simply not received at all, wasting money and time.
The ones I find most convenient now are SMS-Activate and 5SIM. Both of these virtual number platforms are very fast, usually receiving verification codes in about 10 seconds, and they cover many countries, making cross-border testing especially easy. If you often need to receive SMS verification, these two are worth trying. Super Cloud SMS is also okay; US numbers arrive in 10-30 seconds, and Chinese numbers are even faster, though sometimes slower during peak times.
Bird SMS is very friendly for domestic applications, receiving messages in 5-15 seconds, and it supports API integration, which is very convenient for bulk testing. Getsmscode is cheap but mainly used for testing domestic apps; less popular platforms may have delays.
When using these platforms, keep a few things in mind: some numbers are shared and may be prone to risk control; verification codes might be delayed, especially for less common countries or apps; it’s recommended to prepare 2-3 backup numbers so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid. Also, these virtual numbers for receiving SMS should only be used for temporary registration or testing, not as long-term primary numbers, as privacy and security cannot be guaranteed.
If you’re just testing interfaces, any platform supporting API is enough; but for stable registration on a specific overseas site, it’s better to load a few more numbers. Many platforms also have a “one-click number switch” feature, which is very practical and helps avoid waste.
