Microsoft executive court hearing reveals: Total investment in OpenAI will exceed $100 billion next month
According to Beating Monitoring, Wednesday marked the final day of the evidence collection phase in Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI. During the court session, Microsoft executives revealed astonishing figures: by June 2026, Microsoft’s total investment in OpenAI (including investment commitments, infrastructure, and computing power hosting costs) will exceed $100 billion. This figure is far higher than the previously known cash investment of $13B, showcasing for the first time the true cost Microsoft has paid in underlying computing power and infrastructure to bind OpenAI. On the same day, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott also confirmed that when building their first supercomputer many years ago, they used tens of thousands of GPUs at once. Besides the exposure of the massive bill, the courtroom’s conclusion was also highly dramatic. After Microsoft and OpenAI announced the end of their evidence presentation, Musk’s team, which originally had the opportunity to rebut, unexpectedly chose to waive the rebuttal phase. This means the three-week evidence collection phase has officially ended, and the court will proceed directly to closing arguments on Thursday.
