a16z becomes the largest political donor in the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, with a total disclosed federal contribution exceeding $115 million.

BlockBeats News, May 14—According to The New York Times, during the 2026 midterm election cycle, well-known venture capital firm a16z and its co-founders Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz have cumulatively disclosed more than $115 million in federal political donations, surpassing George Soros ($102.9 million), Elon Musk ($85 million), and Jeff Yass ($81.8 million), making them the largest known political donors in this election cycle.

Compared with the roughly $63 million in donations during the 2024 election cycle, a16z’s donation amount in this round has increased significantly. Notably, on November 6, 2024 (the day after the general election), a16z injected more than $23 million into major pro-cryptocurrency super PACs, demonstrating that its political strategy has a clearly defined long-term strategic intent.

Most of the funds flowed to super PACs focused on cryptocurrencies (such as Protect Progress and Fairshake) to support industry-friendly candidates. The Fairshake PAC network (the main funding recipient for companies including a16z and Coinbase) has raised more than $193 million in the 2026 cycle. At the same time, a16z is also connected with AI-industry super PACs that support lightly regulated paths, such as “Leading the Future,” attempting to build political firewalls around artificial intelligence regulatory policies.
