According to Decrypt, X user Cprkrn posted that Anthropic’s Claude AI helped him recover a Bitcoin wallet that had been dormant for nearly 9 years, holding 5 BTC (about $400,000). On-chain data shows that the related address had not moved funds for a long time since 2015, until it recently became active again. Cprkrn said he had previously tried to recover the wallet using tools such as btcrecover and Hashcat, but it failed. Later, after uploading old computer files to Claude, the AI helped him identify an old wallet file related to the mnemonic phrase on his laptop, and he ultimately succeeded in recovering it. In response, wallet recovery experts said that Claude helps users analyze, filter, and match clues across large volumes of historical files—an AI-assisted digital forensics and password recovery process, rather than breaking through Bitcoin’s underlying cryptography.
