Federal Reserve's Collins: May Need to Raise Interest Rates to Curb Inflation

Golden Finance reports that on May 14th, Boston Federal Reserve President Susan Collins stated that if inflationary pressures do not subside, the Federal Reserve may need to raise interest rates. “Although this is not the most likely scenario in my forecast, I can envision a situation where some policy tightening is necessary to ensure that inflation returns to the 2% level in a timely and sustained manner.” The outlook for FOMC monetary policy largely depends on the duration of the Middle East conflict, and she pointed out that the longer the conflict lasts, the greater the risk, especially regarding inflation.
