You know, there is a figure in Bitcoin history who is usually remembered only for pizza. Laszlo Hanyecz – the person who made the first documented purchase with cryptocurrency. But if you delve into his story, you'll find that this is far from the most significant thing he did for the network's development.

Yes, on May 22, 2010, Laszlo bought two pizzas for 10,000 BTC – this moment became legendary and is now celebrated by the community as Pizza Day. But Hanyecz himself recently revealed an interesting fact: he actually spent much more on pizza than is commonly believed. According to him, he mined about 100,000 BTC and spent roughly half on pizza and small things, while the other half he gave away or sold. From these operations, he earned a few thousand dollars, enough to build a new computer. As he himself says: I didn’t hold back and was willing to overpay.

But what is truly important is that Laszlo doesn’t consider the pizza purchase his main contribution. He is proud that he ported Bitcoin from Windows to MacOS. When Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin, he was working on Windows and didn’t know how to compile for Mac. Laszlo Hanyecz took on this task, and his source code was released into the network. This was a much more technical and meaningful achievement than just buying pizza with crypto.

So, Laszlo Hanyecz is not just the guy who spent bitcoins on food, but one of the early developers who helped expand the network’s compatibility. An interesting story, especially when you remember that back then, no one could have imagined the value these coins would reach years later.
