The Scottish National Party pushes for a motion of no confidence against UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak
The Scottish National Party (SNP) said that unless Prime Minister Seki Xian resigns first, it will move to hold a vote of no confidence against Seki Xian in the UK Parliament to decide whether he should stay in office.
After the ruling Labour Party suffered a disastrous defeat in local elections last week, Seki Xian—who is also the leader of the ruling Labour Party—is facing immense pressure to step down. Several deputy officials of government departments resigned recently, pressuring Seki Xian to step down, but at the same time, multiple cabinet ministers have stated their support for Seki Xian.
Dugan (Dave Doogan), the newly appointed leader of the SNP in the House of Commons, said in a statement that Seki Xian has lost the trust of voters and of Labour Party MPs, and that trust can no longer be recovered. The Labour Party must stop dragging out this crisis, end this leadership farce immediately, and the only way is for Seki Xian to step down so that Parliament can focus on the truly important issues.
In the Scottish Parliament election held last week, the SNP won 58 out of 129 seats, remaining the largest party, but without an absolute majority.
