I just revisited how to create a Bitcoin wallet on a phone, and I see that quite a few people are still confused about this, so I want to share some experience.
There are 3 main ways you can get started. The simplest way is to use a software wallet — that is, a hot wallet. You just need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play, install it following the instructions, then create a new wallet and set a password. The most important point here is to record the recovery phrase (mnemonic phrase) and keep it in an absolutely safe place. That is the key to access your wallet later.
If you want higher security, a hardware wallet is a good choice. The process is not very complicated — connect the hardware wallet to a computer via USB cable, install the accompanying software, create a new wallet, and set a password. Then you also need to back up the recovery key in a safe place.
The third way is to use an online wallet on exchanges. You register an account, verify your identity, then you can create a Bitcoin wallet directly on the platform using your phone. However, I do not recommend using online wallets for long-term Bitcoin storage. The reason is they pose many risks — exchanges can be hacked, shut down, or legal regulations can change. So if you want to keep your Bitcoin safe for the long term, choose a hardware wallet or a paper wallet.
For wallets that support multiple cryptocurrencies, I find Trust Wallet quite good — it supports many ERC-20, BEP-20 tokens, and other blockchains. MetaMask is also popular in the Ethereum community, and Exodus has a nice interface and is easy to use.
A few final tips: protect your recovery phrase as if your life depended on it, and do not share it with anyone. Enable two-factor authentication to enhance security. And always update your wallet software to the latest version to patch security vulnerabilities. These are the basics for creating a safe Bitcoin wallet on your phone.
