I’ve been following how the rankings of the world’s richest people have changed, and here’s what’s interesting: by the beginning of this year, there has been an absolutely wild concentration of wealth in the hands of technology entrepreneurs. This is no longer just a trend—it’s a turning point.
Elon Musk is now the richest person in the world, with a fortune of about $726 billion. Honestly, that number sounds almost unbelievable. His rise is driven by the explosive growth in SpaceX’s valuation, the expansion of Starlink, plus Tesla stock and his influence in AI and neurotechnology. No one in modern history has accumulated such personal wealth before.
Next come the classic tech giants. Larry Page (Google co-founder) is in second place with $270 billion—Alphabet dominates in AI. Jeff Bezos is third with $255 billion, supported by AWS growth and Amazon’s logistical expansion. Then Sergey Brin with $251 billion, and Larry Ellison with $248 billion.
The full top 10 looks like this: Musk $726B, Page $270B, Bezos $255B, Brin $251B, Ellison $248B, Zuckerberg $233B, Arnault $205B, Ballmer $170B, Huang $156B, Buffett $151B.
So what’s driving this boom? First, an exponential surge in AI and cloud computing. Second, space and semiconductors have grown in valuation. Third, the American tech sector simply dominates globally. And most importantly, it’s the founders who held onto their shares for many years, and whose bets have finally paid off completely.
In essence, the richest person in the world now has more than any one person ever before. This reflects just how concentrated power and capital are in the tech sector. It will be interesting to see how this develops further, especially as AI and space technologies continue to accelerate.
