A man chose prison instead of returning the $1.1 million that was mistakenly sent to his bank account.
• A Nigerian bank customer received 1.5 billion Naira (around $1.1M) due to a technical error.
• Despite repeated warnings from the bank, he refused to return the money and allegedly transferred the funds across multiple accounts to spend it.
• He was later charged with unlawful enrichment and misappropriation of funds, receiving a 1-year prison sentence.
• During the trial, the man claimed he had already spent most of the money and preferred serving jail time over repaying it.
• The judge also ordered the immediate return of the remaining 272 million Naira still linked to him.
