Japan's major banks are expected to start using Anthropic's Mythos system as early as this month.
Golden Finance reports that on May 13th, Japan’s Nikkei News reported that Japan’s three major banks are expected to gain access to the AI model Mythos developed by Anthropic as early as the end of May. The report states that the banking divisions of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group, and Mizuho Financial Group likely learned this news during a meeting held in Japan on Tuesday from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. This will be the first time Japanese companies are authorized to use Mythos. Although Mythos is specifically designed for defensive cybersecurity tasks, its capabilities have raised concerns about traditional software security threats.
Anthropic stated that during preview testing, the system was found to have many significant vulnerabilities affecting all mainstream operating systems and web browsers. On Tuesday, Japanese Finance Minister Katsuya Okada met with Bessent, and afterward announced that Japan would establish a public-private working group this week to address the cybersecurity risks Mythos poses to Japan’s financial system. The first meeting of this working group is expected to be held on Thursday. (Sina Finance)
